Choice Two Create a Magazine Cover

1. Find a cover that you will emulate. Meaning: not steal from or copy, but one you will use as an example to follow.

2. Your creation and emulation can not be risqué: Meaning: nothing you would not be proud to show your parents! This is especially necessary because the five best will go on the web. The 10 best will be printed and posted in the hall.

3. Images:

All images must be cropped and extra background removed.

Hey Class,

Hope your week went amazing. Its been some time since we have been in the groove of life, but I thought I would highlight what is going on this week. We only are meeting twice.

This week, we will be focused on starting our first emovie about the year.

This is what you will need to do.

Block #1

Create a timeline of the year From August-May

When you are done, you will be making a 3 minute short on Jay cut or movie maker

This week we will be doing animation without creating it from scratch. This is what I should expect

3. See if you can have a 30 second movie

Hey There Tech students,

This week I want to introduce Mr. Woo, who will be working for the next quarter to help us with video editing and film review.

This week we will be using images to create a scene animation(AKA flip story). We are hoping to get into film editing by the start of 4th quarter, but this week is all about creating

Project
1. You will be creating a 25 image flip movie that discusses any theme that you want.

2. Steps
Gather 1 main charachter and create him on photoshop (25 points due Monday/Tuesday)

Create your best person and make sure they fit the story that you want to share with the rest of the animation

3. Gather 25 scenes or images that the characther goes through (25 points)

Depending on what you're story is about. It can be anything from one soccer field to the movies. You can also get 12 images and manipulate them for the 2 diffrent times.(hence 24 images)

This week you will be creating what you have learned from your own personal web site development and now create a website for your entrepreneur

This is EXACTLY WHAT I WOULD LIKE IT TO LOOK LIKE:

Find your entrepreneur ( if you do not have the person in mind, pick another one)

On photoshop, open up a new document and make it

8. Make a text with the words BEAUTY that has a RED DROP SHADOW, and a BEVEL effect

9. Make a text with the word AMOR. Make the color of the text blue. Duplicate the text and make the copy a gradiant black and white. Flip the text so it is reverse( like a mirror effect)

10. Place this image of a palm tree and make a TEXT that says RELAX. Place the image inside the TEXT

11. Make a text with the word STRANGE on it. NOW have each letter with a diffrent text effect.

My apologies for not being in school today. I had to fly out to my friends funeral. I'll be back on Tuesday. Thank you for being strong while I presented the news.

This week's outcomes

1. CD covers for your Entrepreneur will be do today

Here is how I will be grading them

A. 10 Points for a text

text must have 3-4 layer styles( drop shadow, bevels, etc)

B.20 points Must have image of entrepreneur on cover.

Must use tool to ensure that the person is clean. feel free to use any tool (magic wand, pen tool, etc)

C.10 points Must have message of hope and peace

make sure that the message is connected to what the person is selling in his/her life.

D. 10 points use elements of C.R.A.P.

You must be able to use 2 of the 4 design elements in your cd cover

E. Misc 5 points ( have color background. turn in on time, and must fit the 5x5 inches 300 dpi

This week you will be asked to perform three outcomes. When you complete each of the following, I strongly encourage you to be at 40 wpm as well as finish your college applications/portfolio essays

TECH OUTCOME 1 (PEN TOOL-PHOTOSHOP)

2. Write the basic steps down on your word document

3. Now take an image from the images that Mr. Nunez gives you and place a different background of the person in another setting

BEGIN 1st Page of Year in review

1. You will go to the first yearbook page that you made on word and will create the work on Photoshop. ( Kevin you are doing the cover and Chandler your first page is on different shoes people wear)

2. Dimensions are 8width 10 length

3. Start with your Text and Click Here to learn how to use Photoshop Text . I know its a lot of words, but simply cover the basics and play with it the first day.( I will go over this on Tuesday's lesson)

5. At the end of the week, I will be looking to see that you have a layout, a type face, and a style that you will be using. ( the theme of the yearbook is simply United)

My apologies for not being present during the 1st block of this week. I am feeling ill today and my stomach feels like it wants to throw up the intestines that I hold. I'll be returning tomorrow. In the meantime, please get started on the following

Hope you had a great 4 days of break. I take it that you have a strong presence of stresses in your life at the moment. I will not try to add any more depth to your struggles by giving you more on your plate.

At this point, your only outcomes for the next two days is the following.

and post the following information your blog
a- for each country write in 3 places to stay in and around the country. Tell me the specific location

Will not make this week to intensive to read, but I would like to reach a point where you are flowing with tech. This week we have four goals

1. Increase typing to 30 WPM. ( if you have already reach this point, you can simply pass this goal)

2. Create your Resume on WORD

3. Start your scholarship search and apply to 1

4. Watch 5 You tube videos and write down video message scripts

5. Pick your 1st year in review story and write about it

EACH GOAL EXPLAINED
1. Type 30 WPM.
Ensure that you are using all the fingers(give some love to those pinkey's). Ensure that you have 30 wpm with a 95% rate. Take the Certificate test from last week's site and email it to me as an attachment

2. Make a polished Resume
If you have already completed your resume, then you should check to ensure that it it professional, clean, and free of any grammar errors.

First you will go to a few sites to get their sample. Write the name of three sites that you visited on your blog, that shows you read about resumes.

3. Apply to 1 scholarship

To apply for a scholarship, you must first review your resume and discover what your talents for future goals are. Once you have a scholarship idea, now figure out what type of scholarships you are ready for.

This week you will have 5 different objectives that I would like for you to meet:

I wanted to check back in with you about the collaboration we discussed last week. Ideally, we would like students to design our marketing materials using the tech skills they are learning in your class. Designing flyers/posters to promote the Beacon programs would be a huge help in getting the ball rolling and maximizing our youth participation.

The first Flyer we would like to work on is targeting High School students (specifically Leadership students) for Community Service Opportunities. We Need HS Students to help tutor middle school students during homework help Mon-Thurs from 4:00-5:30. Flexible schedules can be arranged. I am also looking for a dedicated Office Intern to assist the Office Manager in various administrative and clerical duties. Hours are ranging from 3:30 - 6:00 mon-fri.

1. Pick your 3 Entrepreneurs that you want to assist

Steps to complete this

-Go to Kiva.org
Write down mission of Kiva on your Blog

-Search for 3 local businesses/people from 3 different continents that interest you.

-Copy and Paste picture and profile of person on blog
- For each person, write a 1/4 page summary as to why you would like to assist them and what specific things you can do to raise their issues on a deeper level.

Project Assignment 2
Using WORD TO create a Poster
Create a 4 page Poster/Newsletter on word that highlights 1 of your entrepreneurs

Poster must have the following attributes
- Must have 5 different font sizes
- Must use all areas of the paper
- Must have a background that is of a different color than the text
- Must include 10 images that are imported from different sites. The images must connect to the area where the entrepreneur is from.
- Each page, must be broken down by section
Page 1- title, picture of person, talk a little about their cause
Page 2/3- Must have a higlight of the country on one side and a 3 news stories. the other side must be a higlight of what the country offers,(i.e. its rain forest, beaches, etc)

WHO AM I

Nunez- is in his sixth year at LHS and teaches Leadership, Media Arts, and Technology. Nunez graduated from the University of California in Santa Barbara with a Bachelor in Global Studies, received his Masters in Education with an emphasis in post Equity and Social Justice, and is in his currently working on his Doctorate dissertation on International Education policy. His dissertation focuses on the relationship between post conflict educational policies and economic development in Iraq and Sudan. Prior to teaching, Nunez worked as a U.S. Peace Corp volunteer in El Salvador teaching technology and civic education to gang members. Outside of academics, Nunez enjoys dancing salsa, creating documentaries on ethnic Diasporas around the globe, and people watching. Jamie Nunez can be reached by email at jnunez@leadershiphigh.org
